| President's Day wknd (Feb 16-18) SXS,ATV,OHM Overnight | January 9, 2008 @ 7:27am | Trail Head will be at Big Brushy Campground on Hwy 270 around 10/15 miles east of Y-City on the south side of the highway. Current plan is to be riding by 10am on Saturday morning, February 16th. We will have to pay for either camping or day use but feel the vehicles could be safer in an established campground than to be left at a trailhead in the wilderness somewhere. I will find out more when I talk to the Ranger from the Oden district. Big Brushy has dedicated campsites with a toilet but no other facilities, no electric or water. It is located on Big Brushy creek and fishing is allowed. Our ride will be dictated on weather conditions. The plan is to pack and ride to where we camp, somewhere northeast towards Lake Nimrod and Hwy 7, whatever we find. Total wilderness camp. This is the plan if the weather that evening looks to be somewhere above 30 for the low. If the weather turns nasty and the temps drop , we will still do the ride but instead we will clover leaf out of Big Brushy both days and camp at the vehicles. That way if the temps drop into the teens or worse that night, people have the option of getting in their vehicles to warm up if need be.
Either way, it should be a good ride. I plan on Sunday trying to ride some of the Fourche Mountain trails. There is a chance if some of us can get away earlier we may show up and camp Friday night or stay Sunday night and head back on Monday instead. I'll nail down that detail later. We need someone with a good GPS that won't kill their battery after 8 hours to join us. There should be a great mix of vehicles from dirt bikes, atv's & SXSs. Let the adventure begin!!!!
