Layne can post amore detailed message but with the help of Tim they have us a place to ride. Layne and I discussed what we wanted and Layne got verbal permission to put us a trail in and out on the front side. We were not agreeable to bicycles and hikers using our trails. We didnot want a road for the ambulance either. Just don't get hurt back there.

Noise, Dust and SpeedAugust 29, 2008 @ 1:16am
Hello All: I met with Tim today, then with Ron Knost, and again with Tim to recap what transpired about the Sweet Spot riding area. The City leased 67 acres, everything back to the Narrows where we are squeezed between the Lake and Interstate fence.
Tim and I expressed our concerns and come up with a workable plan. What we asked for is the land between the road and the interstate to put two trails, one out to, and one back from the Narrows. These trails are to be as far away from the road as possible while still being twisty and slow enough to limit Speed, Dust, and Noise, our three enemies. It was proposed we just ride the road slowly to the back, but I know some MORON would run through the gears, show his lack of intelligence and make alot of Noise, Dust and Speed. So, to not have a head on collision, to limit speed, and to limit Dust, we are trying to get all on board for the responsible use of two seperate trails to get to the Narrows.
The back side will be unaffected! We could loose everything if we are not responsible about Dust, Speed, and Noise on the front side access though.
We can plan and build a Pavillion that we can ride up to near the parking, and we can have other amenities that we can help pay for with RTP funding.
The Hiking/bicycle trail is proposed to go all the way to the narrows by the lake, and return near the road, or on the road which is most likely. Also, there will be several connectors coming from the lakeside trail up to the road. This intersection should be signed with a sign saying Motorcycles only, no Hiking, No Bicycles, or something to let the person know they should not be mad by seeing a bike in the woods, or hearing it, or eating it's dust, where our riders should not be making dust, noise, or be seen...just kidding about the not being seen part.
The only thing we should have to police, is loud mufflers and rev happy morons. Do you see a pattern? We will have to police strangers and friends at the risk of hurting someones feelings, but it is what has to be done. Feelings are over rated anyway. Except mine.

BusinessAugust 29, 2008 @ 1:22am
On the business side of this project, we will get with Ron to try to use RTP funds for as much as possible of the Sweet Spot site to pay for paved parking, fencing, gates, Pavillion, restrooms, bridges, etc. Dad, Tim, Ron and I will get imput from the Club, and Ron will help with his Gov experience to make an application for RTP funds when it comes around again. I am open for suggestions, preferably in person, on foot at the Sweet Spot sight after 5pm.....or whenever.

One last thing!August 29, 2008 @ 1:29am
We can still unload and ride after 5 on weekdays, and probably anytime on weekends, but they do not want us out there while they are working machines.

Please do not run through the gears across their freshly dozed dirt, it is ok for dozers to make a pile, but it gives a bad impression to see bike tracks at all. Try not to leave a track, and we all will be closer to getting what we want. Make your bikes quite.
And lastly go slow on the road both directions as there will be increasing activity walking the road to scout for the Hike/bicycle trails. If someone messes this up, I will haunt you for the rest of your days! Spread the word, Layne

Sweet Spot & NeboAugust 29, 2008 @ 9:48pm
Way to go! Thank yall for representing our club to the folks that hold our permission. Layne, Tim, Gorman, yall let me know what needs to be done and I'm there. I love riding at the SS and have put many hours working out there and will put many more to make this happen. Everyone tell your friends that ride the SS the guidelines that Layne has mentioned here and remind them it only takes one idiot to ruin it for everyone. Layne, I plan on going to SS Sunday around 1:30. Can you be there? If not, let me buy your lunch sometime this week. I want to talk Sweet Spot.

Went to Nebo today and started clearing downed trees and grown limbs that went across the road. I didn't even get to the trails cause the road was so messy. The low water bridge across the creek is nice. The road has been dozed all the way to the top of the hill (by our parking area) and it is nice. That made for a fun ride. I rode back to the bottom just to do it again. It was hot out there and I want to get after trail marking/making after it cools off a little more. Who else has an interest in trail making @ Nebo? I can inch along and finally wind up with a trail but if there's several of us, we can trim it out in a hurry.

Carry i would recommend to mark trail that dont need to be trimed. I like the idea of mark and ride. Just remember what you trim will grow back.

Layne and Tim, thanks for all the work you've done with the politics of keeping SS.
You know you can count on me to help in what ever you need me to do.

My bike is quiet!

Sweet SpotSeptember 17, 2008 @ 11:25pm
We had a meeting at Sweet Spot tonight, it was very positive. This is about to become a permanent riding area.
There is not much time before RTP apps are to be turned in. Get ur done.
I wish Pete and Jeff could see us now. By the time they return we need to have our projects finished.

Dang. You're up awful late gramps.

Keep me filled in on progress.
And let me know what I can do to help.

I hear rumor that the city boat ramp stuff might get postponed or canceled because of environmental nonconformances.

Jim I think everything is good to go with the boat docks. This will be a show place and a billboard for off-road riding. We must watch our Ps and Qs.

RVDR should apply for another RTP grant to help on signage, pavillion, some pipe fencing, and parking lot.

I have ask for proof that we have permission to use the land because the RTP will need that. Mr. Knost has done lots of paper work like that and he will do ours. The city and corp are involved. The city leased to the narrows and we will ride above the road on new trails to and fro. These are where we will be under the microscope. The pavillion was Layne' idea and a good one but we will have to share with anyone that wants to use it. Where we locate it might have some bearing. We want some rest benches above the bridge.

Tim and Layne have really done a good job. This such a great place for us. I am proud to have it.

Carry, someone will breif you on what the to and fro trail should be like.

For now, don't go to Sweet Spot until after 5pm, when heavy equipment is still.

I know I was up late but I still got up early.
