1000 ac possible future HS sightOctober 14, 2008 @ 11:30am

Today @ 11:28am
Im currently working with a person who has 1000 ac in Delware. They are in differnt sections. One section is 600 ac. He said he will let us use this land for $1000 per year. That includes having a harescrable. This is hunting land so he does not want us on the property from Sept 1 thru Dec 31. That would still give us 8 months of riding on the property. There is a problem with the parking. He dont think there is enough parking for a harescramble. He said we would have to just look and see. He told me there is a field next to the property that belongs to someone else. We might be able to rent that field for a weekend once a year. If the club is interested i will set up a appointment for a tour of the land. I will talk more about this at the meeting Thursday. If we decide to use this property we wont be able to have a harescrable after August

Sounds good to me. You club members that ride will have to decide. I use to drive that far to ride in the old days and rode the same area back then. This could be the time to show that hunting and riding property can be a match. Our trails can make good game trails.
I may be able to ensure we will be able to buy the property at Dover and the Sweeco. We need a fund raiser.

Chuck, you won't even leave sight of the truck, much less drive to Delaware. I guess there is a Delaware Arkansas near Rville? If I had a flatbed S-10 I would'nt leave it for long either.

Seriously, Doug. Good work. On the flatbed and the land. But get a haircut, or get a Mullet.

Sounds like a great place, this land, but I think we should at least negotiate to be able to "work" trail for club members only for some of the hunting season. Maybe only on weekends, and from 11am to 3pm and during the week? Obviously we'll stay completely away on the opening weekends of Bow, Muzzleload, and Modern Gun for sure, the whole time. 8 months seems like a long time, but some of the best riding time is in Fall. If the guy is strict on no riding from Sep to basically January, I suppose we could still do it but keep looking for another spot. No long term contracts, in other words.

Ive already buzzed my hair Jeff. The new proposed riding area is about 25 to 30 minutes from Russellville. Not sure about negotiating about the ridding or work times. It maybe something we can talk to him about in the future. We need to show Garrsion we can coincide together. As time goes by we may develope a better relationship with them by showing we respect their club and there hunting. As far as ATVs. That will not be posible. Garrison has already made it clear that we canot make ATV trails out there. The land owner of the land will not allow it. We will also need to find another way to put up race arrows. No staples are allowed. Im going to call Garrison in the morning to find out when he can take us up there. Garrison has been leasing this land for years. So i dont see him loosing the lease. There is a long line waiting for the lease behind him. However his lease is renewed every July. So there will be no long term agreement. It will be year by year. Im going to talk to him about prorating the first payment to get in line with the lease contract. He has a past of ridding off road so he wants us to be there. It benifits the both clubs.
Good to here from u Jeff.

Maybe we can use "Green" staples.

We need to have a date to throw at the AHSCS soon. The hunting thing kills a fall race. Suggestions?

Garrison said something about alumium staple when i talked to him. Not sure if you can get those. Last meeting we talked about having a spring race if this agreement goes though. Just got of the phone with Garrison he said alumium stapes are fine. He will show us the land this Friday at Noon.

16 penny nails ain't staples.

No ATV trails? Can't complain about that. How many hunting clubs aren't criscrossed by ATV trails? None that I've seen. Sounds unique.

This really sounds like a good deal, but we really need some kind of deal to be able to get out in the Fall and at least make trail. Even if we can just use our bikes to work on or make trail, or an ATV or something. That is 4 months out of the year that we can't do anything there. I can see their point of not wanting a bunch of loud bikes running around while they are hunting. Compromise? We need to at least bring it up to the guy. But 1000 acres and 30 min away sounds great.

What is the land like? All woods, how hilly, rocky, etc?

This sounds like a good interim deal, but we eventually need to have a place where we are the primary leaseholder, owner, etc. We need to be calling the shots, not the hunters. Mark my words, when you try to work with hunters, you will lose. They feel like the most oppressed minority, always think the world owes them whatever they want when it comes to land use. Someone will get mad about something, and try to kick us out. Unless we can get some of the lease managers to ride dirt bikes.

I have browsed many sites and threads about mixing hunting leases with bikes. It usually goes bad eventually. I'll go into why at a meeting, not here. Bottom line is that most hunters hate bikes. Even those who ride ATVs, and sometimes especially those who ride ATVs. We need to get alot of talking done up front before we go into a deal like this.

I am tired of making trail only to lose the area later. We need to start focusing on long term deals or ownership. Not trying to sour the deal, but we need to explain our goals and needs plainly up front to these folks and see if they want to really work with us.

Doug, glad you got a haircut. But I wish you had gone for the Mullet instead. "All buisness in front, all party in back", that's how I heard a Mullet described once.

What about during turkey season, most of April?? Most hunting clubs/members also turkey hunt.....

Also, they do make plastic staples. Some of the lumber we buy has them to hold on small ID signs.

Eventually we need land where we call the shots, but this might be good for a start. If there are no other immediate options, I guess we gotta do it? We gotta have a race, I guess.

With 1000 acres could we have an Enduro? I think the Scipio area in Ok. is on 1200 I think?
