| Trail Making and Trimming | August 26, 2008 @ 2:40am | While I was often griping about Tim's trails being tight in the last 30 years, I have grown to understand that he has done a fabulous job of making trails that are fun and flowing. He has maximized trail mile per acre while having a fun and flowing concert of curves and terrain. What I am getting at is that we need to be very careful when trimming existing trail, or making new trail to THINK FIRST, and cut second. This last rain has downed some trees at Sweet Spot and I have moved all of them that I suggest we move (1 because of erosion), lets discuss almost everything before it is cut or moved in the future, BECAUSE the trail gets too loose, a difficult spot that is trimmed to become easy is a travisty, and is no longer as usful for practice. Alternate lines are great if they are slower, if they are faster or easier then they need to be discussed. I laid out some trail at Robert's and it sucked, my first try, but it was not good. Robert's part that he laid out was much better. Seems like I need to try to copy Tim's arching turns, even if I need to take some string that is a magical length with a stake to make the archs like at Sweet Spot. Also, what trail I laid out at Nebo sucked, it was tighter and more difficult than Tim would have ever done. What was I thinking? I will try to do better.
Wednesday, I would like to run the trail at Sweet Spot backwards, I think it would be all new to me that way. Want to join? Layne |

The trails need management by RVDRS and the Club needs to generate a plan of action or an approved method to deal with trail issues. This is about RVDRS as a club having a plan, it is part of the management that has been lacking. I also wanted to recognize how good a job Tim did all those years. And to admit how bad a job I did on my few tries.....Nothing else. |

| August 27, 2008 @ 2:15pm | | Thanks for clearing that up. I fluffed up like Chicken Little at first but after giving it some thought, see the point. I wouldn't call what I've done at SS "making trail". It's more like "trail jiggits" that extend the existing one. Tim gave me some advice and admonishments which I've tried to follow and found it helpful. Something to keep in mind is preference. Each of us prefer some things more than others...difficulty or ease, rocks or no rocks, logs or no logs, hair pin or straight, tight or highway width, fast or McVay (slow). I think the answer to that is options. Group input is great because each of us have our idea of the "perfect trail". The problem with that is schedules. Everyone has one and they're all different. I suggest that when we go trail hunting, we post when and where we are going to open it up for others to join and mark it then inform the club what we've marked so it can be looked at. Post our responses to get feed back. Somebody has to make the decision on whether or not a trail is to be cut or not. Is that the most votes win or do we have a "trail master" make the decisions? Suggestions? Input? Ideas? I'm going to Nebo this Friday (1Pm) and next Friday (9AM)to look at what we've done and our potential. Being uncertain of our riding at SS, I want to make more options for us and feel we must make something happen on our land. I'm just happy to be here looking for twigs to cut. Give me some feedback. |

| Nebo Trails | August 28, 2008 @ 11:05am | CMcvay will need some help On Nebo. I am waiting on a notice to proceed for the Rino and trailer purchase, should be less than a week. I hand carried the contract to LR yesterday.
Pete, Steve Weston told me to tell you hello. Hello Pete and Jeff from the folks at LR. Steve is doing railroad crossings. Bill is knee deep in alligators. Heres hoping we all get to ride together soon. |

| August 28, 2008 @ 10:38pm | | Come on Zane. I plan on being at Nebo tomorrow around 1PM. I have about 3 hours to work. We can meet at the Dard Wal Mart around 12:45. Way to go Gorman on the Rino contract! That would be a great help in making Nebo trail. Can I have it next Friday (ha)? |
