| Old Crow Closed | August 23, 2008 @ 2:34pm | Layne met with the niece, all she wanted was to fight or fuss. I think she is sexually frustrated, anyway it an't worth it trying to deal with person with so many personal problems. Mary wanted this event to happen. We need to give her an award for all her support. Newspaper to run a picture and an article explaining how she has helped. Let her know we care about her.

| August 24, 2008 @ 9:19am | Gorman, Layne, Mike, and all those who really tried to push this to the limits:
Thanks.
What more can I say at this time? We've all had some very good times out at OC over the last what, 20 years?
Maybe one day we'll have another chunk of land and start another 20 years of good times and bring in another generation of race workers!
Thanks again, JIM |

| August 24, 2008 @ 12:55pm | All River Valley Dirt Riders:
I sent this out today-
It is with deep regret that I inform you that due to land conflicts with property owners, that the 2-Day AHRMA Cross Country event scheduled for September 6-7 by the River Valley Dirt Riders in Russellville, AR has been cancelled. My club attempted an 11hr effort to relocate the event after all attempts of resolving the land issue with the property owners of the original site failed. Unfortunately, no suitable alternate location could be found that we could support an event of this nature. As a fellow AHRMA Cross Country racer I believe that the only thing worse than the cancelling this event would be to hold the event at a undesirable location with little prep time, staff and resources resulting in a substandard event for all parties concerned. I realize many of you coordinate and plan early in the year to arrange to participate in specific AHRMA cross country events, especially a 2-Day event like this. I personally want to apologize for not being able to host this event and the last minute notification to cancel. In the future the River Valley Dirt Riders hope to be able to offer a quality cross country event for the AHRMA membership to enjoy. Please pass this information on to anyone who can help notify others planning on attending the event.
The worse thing about vintage dirt bikes is remembering how much riding area you had in the 60's and 70's and how little you have today.
Sincerely,
Pete Petrick PREZ, RVDRS

| August 24, 2008 @ 9:52pm | | That sucks with the vintage race, surely by next year we can put on the "Race of the Year" for those guys/gals. I am also greatful for the little bit of time that I got to ride at Old Crow. I really enjoyed it there and proud that we left it a cleaner place. Thanks to all who started up being able to ride there and all who allowed us to enjoy it up to now. |

| LET'S LET MARY KNOW HOW MUCH SHE MEANS TO US!!!!!! | August 24, 2008 @ 10:34pm | | I know we are all down about not having the race and especially the closing of Old Crow. On a positive note, I think we need to do something special for Mary. She is the reason we were able to ride and race there for so many years. She has supported us all along and would still love for us to have the race. I think a plaque and party in her honor would be great. A newspaper article would be great also. Give me some input. |

| August 25, 2008 @ 7:49pm | Hey Mike, you're the "event planner" or something like that, right?
How about a diner in honor of Mary, Lonnie and Isaac. Maybe at Savanna's in Dardanelle? A nice plaque to hand to Mary would be good too. All could bring pictures they have from OC, Mary likes looking at them.
I don't see us being in any hurry to do this. Maybe this fall when a majority of members will be able to make it. Maybe next spring so Pete can be there.
Put it together and we will come. Let me know if you need any help.

| Mary | August 25, 2008 @ 7:54pm | A Plaque giving praise to her and Lonnie along with some flowers would be great. A newspaper article might stir up Becky, Becky wants to argue and that is her passion. It is what she lives for, because her life has to be someone elses blame. When others cut the fence in the future, she will think it is us, when the hunters kill deer there, she will think it is us, but if someone else gets cought out there, maybe she will focus on them. There is no way to make her happy or rationalize with her. She wanted us to mow the whole 120 acres, She thought we were selfish be only mowing the Field. Funny. Let's get going on our own property asap, and we should all be dualsporting as much as possible. Follow Devro's lead! |

That is Funny! If we were to "mow" the rest of the property would BLB agree to let us keep the trees?
It will not be long before the trash dumpers and poachers will be all over that place. It's too close to dense population for it not to be abused if not policed regularly like we did. But I don't see anything we can do about it. She can blame us if she wants to. I doubt much of what she says is taken to be very creditable by anyone.

| Nebo Friday September 5th | August 25, 2008 @ 11:54pm | | I'm going to Nebo next Friday if anyone wants to go. I plan on being there at 9AM. I want to check out the parts we cleared this winter and look for potential. Winter's coming and that means trail making for me. If anyone else enjoys that, feel free to join me. |

| August 26, 2008 @ 3:09pm | This bites, but it was inevitable. Maybe it will be good in the long run because we'll have to find our own land? I wrote several paragraphs yesterday about this, then got disconnected before I sent it. My I-net sucks here. Anyway, my idea was to get the Church's to get looking for land. They know everyone North of R-ville it seems. Small world, today I met a buy from Fort Smith who knows Vernon! I'm in Iraq and met a guy who knows the only real cowboy I know.
Pete, tell me where you are, I am a .50 gunner on convoy escort, we travel from Talil to North of Baghdad all the time, maybe I can drop by sometime.

| August 27, 2008 @ 12:26am | Jeff,
My digs are in Ballad. Drop by sometime and we'll swap jobs. You can be the staff puke. Are you playing in a MRAP, ASV or UAH or Striker?

| August 27, 2008 @ 2:31pm | I'm in a HUMVEE right now, but we get the new small MRAP next week. It's a lot safer from IEDs and the vision of the gunner and crew is much better, but it turn's over verrrryyyy easy. Most of the crew survives the blasts, except the gunner, which just loses limbs and maybe a head. But when the MRAP overturns, guess who's sticking out of the top?
I don't know how much it weighs, but I think it's almost as heavy as a KLR 650, but has a better turning radius.
Pete, I need more info than just "Ballad". Like a building name and #, Command, etc. I won't be on the road for at least 10 days. We have classes on the new trucks and weapons systems and a bunch of on-base training before they turn us loose. The Army find's troops expendable, but not expensive equip.

| August 28, 2008 @ 3:28am | Jeff,
You should be a TC! The M-CRAP, ooops I mean MRAP will beat the hell out of you as a gunner. You will feel like you looped out a BMW on top of both Loosey 1&2 and had the Beeemer bounce off of you all the way down to the bottom, except the MRAP is worse. Sounds like your're playing with the Max-Pro version, wait till you get in the RG-33!
PRACTICE YOUR ROLL-OVER DRILLS! You do not want to learn about the MRAP, ASV or Up Armored HUMVEE in theater, the time to learn is before you hit IRAQ. When you get some MRAP time under you, let me know what is worse: A week running missions in a MRAP or 50 loops in a row at Brock Creek.
GVW: 43,500 lbs (Varies by Model) Cost: $500K-$750K each.
I can't tell you anymore on this site about MRAPS. At least not without getting busted to private.
RVDRS: Jeff has a hell of a job in front of him. He is one tuff dude in one tuff position, filling a tuff mission after another. At least the weather will be cooling down a bit.
I know guys like Jeff going out and coming back on missions everyday. THESE GUYS REALLY EARN THIER PAY!
I'm praying for you buddy and congrats on making it across the pond to the sandbox!
I'm in Bldg #23, 3d ESC headshed.

| August 30, 2008 @ 12:25pm | The situation with OC sucks. My first HS and first crash were there. I agree with all the other posts. Let's honor the Hulls and move on with finding a new place. Jeff and Pete....Thanks....I'm Proud to know both of you. You are included in my thoughts and prayers daily. Jeff, the last thing you need is to lose any more extremities. Keep the camo side up!

Take care over there and write in more often. When do you get some R&R at home?
I rode past your house Saturday evening, it was just about dark. All seemed to be fine.

| September 1, 2008 @ 9:13pm | | I was just thinking about all the things Jeff and Pete must be going though while overseas. Ive been in the army and its no cake walk. If it was i would have stayed in. You have a boss around every building and in every room. Well maybe not Pete since he is a Major. Time away from family and freinds. Time away from home and the things you enjoy doing when you are off work. I am so thankful for the people who are over there. The important thing to remember is that our service men(and woman) are all volunteers doing what most of us dont want to do. I salute you Pete and Jeff. Please take care and come home soon. Sincerly Doug |

| September 2, 2008 @ 12:34am | I'm not sure what the specifics of the Old Crow arrangement was, but this is an opportunity. We, rightly, have expressed gratitude for the use of Old Crow and generated cash flow for the owner and our club.
As new horizons go, this is an opportunity to expand in a sustainable way. Using state money to buy new land is a slow process, and will likely cause us to miss future opportunities. The first thing that comes to mind is leasing riding rights from timber companies. On private land, we can prohibit hikers, bicyclists, interlopers, hippy environmentalists, and people who think someone on a pinger or thumper must be a deer and needs to be shot.
It would be a good idea to get firm rights to the property in the form of a lase. This will protect the labor we put in the new trail system. In light of gas prices and convenience, it would also be a good idea to find land in an area close to the population center in central Arkansas.
These are just a couple of thoughts to get discussion flowing. Fall riding will be here before we know it. |
