| May 27, 2008 @ 5:40pm | Not aggressive? I think the point of people being afraid of snakes is they sometimes become aggressive unexpectedly? At least that has always been why I prefer to not handle them. I've never tried having a reasoned discussion with a snake, but somehow I don't think it would be an effective means of communication with one.
I prefer to communicate with snakes from a distance if possible, not at the end of a stick. Unless it is a long stick and I'm beating the wiggler with it.
It did make a great pic, though.
Remember the old country song: "Disco Duck"? Anyone remember the words to that? We need to change the words to "Disco, Disco snake". |

| May 27, 2008 @ 10:40pm | Mr. BIG Rattler was very patient with us that day. He knew who was boss of the woods and he knew we knew it too.
He hung from disco's stick and waited to be put down. He didn't get all excited and strung out like some people do when they find even a small snake.
Nope, he was the BOSS and he knew that we knew that he could hurt us real bad if he took a liking too.
Some have written to me in disbelief we didn't kill it.
Well, we figured that any predater that has survived the harsh Ozark Mt. environment for 10 years deserves a bit of respect, has earned the right to go on up the hill it was attempting to climb.
Maybe disco will be the new Steve?

| May 28, 2008 @ 8:27am | The other thing that you folks can't tell from the picture is that stick I am holding the snake with is about 8' long. Just looking at the picture, the stick looks about 2'long. I just picked the snake up and it just hung out on the stick. If it would have been moving aroud real agresive, I would not have been near it. We could not even get him to rattle.
